Grief Massage
Grief doesn’t just live in the heart and mind—it settles into the body. Grief Massage is a gentle, supportive form of bodywork designed to hold space for those moving through grief of any kind, whether it’s recent or long-held.
This session isn’t about “fixing” or rushing healing. It’s an invitation to slow down, soften, and reconnect with your body in the midst of emotional pain. Using grounding techniques, calming touch, and a trauma-informed approach, Grief Massage creates a safe space to feel, release, or simply rest.
Whether you’re grieving a loved one, a relationship, a life transition, or something harder to name, this work meets you where you are—with compassion, care, and presence.
How to schedule and what to expect
Because grief work is deeply personal, I require a brief phone call before scheduling your first session. This conversation allows us to connect, discuss your needs, and ensure that grief massage is the right support for you at this time. It also gives you space to ask questions and feel comfortable before stepping into this work togther. Scope of Practice
Grief Massage provides supportive, therapeutic touch to help ease the physical and emotional effects of grief. As a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), my role is to offer safe, trauma-informed bodywork that promotes relaxation, grounding, and connection with the body.
Please note: I am not a counselor, therapist, or coach. I do not provide mental health counseling, advice, or guidance for processing grief during or after sessions. While you are welcome to experience and express emotions during massage, conversations in our time together will remain supportive but not therapeutic in the counseling sense.
If you find that you need additional support with grief beyond what massage can offer, I encourage you to connect with a licensed mental health professional or grief counselor. I am happy to provide referral resources if needed.
Is grief counselling offered during the massage?
No. In a culture that often tries to “fix” a griever’s experience, grief massage is very unique because we offer comfort as well honoring the grief and refraining from attempts to “fix” anything. As a grief massage practitioner I do not counsel, coach or offer advice. I communicate through my touch and hold space for each client to show up as they truly are, to collapse onto the table and to receive body-based comfort. I make referrals to grief counselors when clients express a desire for verbal, mental, emotional processing of grief. But no, grief massage is not a form of counseling.
Do people cry during the grief massage?
While there is potential for deep and profound shifts, there’s no timeline we follow except your body’s. This is a central tenet of my bodywork philosophy. So yes sometimes, not always. The grief massage session is a place for Grievers to show up as they truly are, without needing to wear the “ social mask” that they may feel a need to wear out in the ordinary world. At times, being authentic may mean crying, releasing emotions or physically twitching or shaking during the massage. I’m here to support whatever each client experiences during their session. Tears are welcome and it’s also perfectly okay to have sessions without tears or emotional release.
How is grief massage different from regular massage?
The intention of grief massage is dedicated to supporting grievers, so that is different from traditional massage. Additionally, while most traditional massage focuses on “fixing” a symptom or achieving an outcome, grief massage is unique in being focused on creating space without any expectation of a set outcome. Grief massage is all about safety, acceptance, and creating space for grief, additionally most grief massage practitioners have invested in their craft by earning continuing education hours in grief specific topics. Finally unlike most traditional massage modalities grief massage can be provided while clients remain clothed if they desire. We are all about flexibility and meeting clients where they are.
